| News May 1, 2001 CogniTech Awarded Air Force Contract for Toxicity Risk Assessment Software The Air Force Research Laboratory Human Effectiveness Directorate awarded CogniTech Corporation contract to develop toxicity risk assessment software. Toxicity screening is important to many industries including household chemical production, agriculture, food science, pharmaceutical, petroleum, and chemical/biological defense. Using fuzzy logic, rules-based expert systems technology, and the Java programming language, CogniTech Corporation will develop a web portal for property-based toxicity assessment of novel chemical compounds. Professor Dean R. Lillquist, Ph.D., MSPH, CIH, at the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health said, "Since we have fundamental understanding of what basic molecular properties are important for pharmacokinetics and toxicology, computerized toxicity screening based on such properties has the potential to reduce the cost and risks of materials and drug development."
